JUNINATTEN / JUNE NIGHT (1940)

Ingrid Bergman’s last Swedish pic before Selznick & Hollywood took over is a well made soaper (handsomely lit) where Bergman gets shot by the small-town lover she’s dumping. She moves to the big city and ends the film by stealing the doctor-boyfriend of her new best friend. Looks trump morality and Bergman gets to nail one of her hysterical specialty scenes. All this plus tantalizing lesbian overtones by the apartment mates. Smallish, but yummy doings.
