A total surprise from little known silent screen indie gal Nell Shipman. It’s a sort of ROMANCING THE STONE adventure that takes a couple of reels to find its tone of romantic comedy & thrills, but then pays off handsomely. Kidnapped by a gang of Mexican banditos, Nell’s only hope is for her new boyfriend to somehow get his Maxwell coupe over the wild scrub land, rocky terrain and boulder strewn traps that lie between the just robbed Lotus Gold Mine and their mountain hideaway. In a jaw-dropping forty-minute thrill ride, atmospherically shot by the great Joseph August, this "little car that could" becomes positively heroic. Co-directed by Shipman, this film earns that overused "ride of your life" ad line. (for more Shipman, see BACK TO GOD'S COUNTRY)
