This attempt to restart a big screen SUPERMAN franchise got better-than-expected reviews and less-than-expected box-office. The public got it right. It’s a near stinker with zero chemistry amongst the entire cast, a Superman who both looks and acts like a mannequin, a nonstarter plot line, a choppy directorial technique that makes the action sequences largely unreadable and even a flattened "tasteful" color scheme that’s as misplaced as the wan attempts at character depth & growth. Note that even the famous tagline is revised into "fighting for Truth, Justice and . . . all the rest." Superman with no "American Way?" Only the much quoted John Williams‘ musical theme, from the Christopher Reeve series, hits the right tone of Pop fun and religious allegory.
