LADY IN CEMENT (1968)

Even Hugo Montenegro ’s music is repulsive in this penny-dreadful sequel to Frank Sinatra ’s equally miserable TONY ROME. This is the one with Dan ("Bonanza") Blocker & Rachel Welch. She looks spectacular, but her over-articulated speech and over-teased hair must be seen & heard to be believed. Hard to choose whether the hetero-leering or fag-bashing is the more tiring, but Frank just looks like he needs a little shuteye. Sad to say, but this was more or less the sorry state of the art in mainstream Hollywood product circa late-‘60s (check out those fluorescent lit interiors). You can almost feel the coming revolution growling just around the decade’s corner. Frankie had one starring vehicle left, but this Private Dick hackwork effectively/mercifully was the real end of his big screen career.
