The first season of this popular police procedural is basically Southern-fried PRIME SUSPECT with Kyra Sedgwick in the Helen Mirren slot and the supporting characters lifted right out of that British/PBS show. Sedgwick has a lot of fun playing a ripe Georgia peach detective replanted in L.A., but wouldn’t the show feel less like QUINCY if she screwed up her cases instead of always being sharper, faster & "righter" than everyone else? That’s Holly Hunter’s gig, no? And Sedgwick shows real chemistry with some of her testy culprits, but few sparks with her FBI main squeeze, Jon Tenney. Check her out playing against Doug Sills. It’s watchable, but as basic as the cable channel it comes on.
