CONDUCT UNBECOMING (1975)

An all-star lineup of real & faux Brits (Michael York, Stacy Keach, Christopher Plummer, Trevor Howard, Susannah York, Richard Attenborough) display the stiffest of upper lips in this stupefyingly awful military courtroom drama that feigns at sexual perversity inside an India regimental outpost, but turns into a wet psychological whodunit. Michael Anderson, up for worst pic ever with THE SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN, comes close to besting his personal worst here. Looks positively quaint now, but in 1975 it must have seemed insultingly reactionary even as it pretended to expose sham military discipline and tradition. Nice shots of Michael York’s spectacular broken nose help, but this is mostly a chore.
