There’s a tasty little revenge story hiding in Daniel Lee ’s Hong Kong police actioner, but not even Chip & Dale could keep up with the presentation. Basically, a team of cool, young international cops lose control when a mobster is ‘rescued’ from a armed motorcade driving him to court. But wait; he wasn’t taken by his own outfit, but by a rogue gang of former cops & soldiers. Methinks. As the main ‘good’ bad guy, ol’ Michael Biehn has camera presence to spare, and the rest of the cast do what they can to particularize rote acting assignments. If only Lee could tame the absurd lengths and hyped up technical work of the big bang-bang action sequences. His work on the more modestly scaled battles shows considerable skill. And kudos for featuring an about-to-retire cop who’s not bumped off in the final reel.
