FLAT TOP (1952)

Perfectly harmless, if by-the-numbers formula WWII action pic with Sterling Hayden as the tough officer on a WWII ship where he has to get his motley gang of flyboys into shape while his #2, Richard Carlson, worries that he’s needlessly rough. Will this formula never die? Just saw it trotted out in MIRACLE for the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team. But not at all bad coming from Monogram Studios in spanking clear CineColor prints mixed with effective archival battle footage. (Title refers to the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, not the haircut. I think.)
