GHOSTS OF MISSISSIPPI (1996)

Rob Reiner’s arthritic attempt to turn the belated conviction of the white supremist murderer of Medgar Evers into a sort of contempo TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (Brock Peters even shows up for a scene) could hardly miss hitting a few strong chords (there really is a great story buried in this self-serving burgoo). But the script, acting & direction are, to put it charitably, inadequate. With Hollywood hacks like Reiner, the puzzle isn’t where did the talent go, but how they got away faking it for so long.
