INCOGNITO (1997)

I’m a sucker for art caper films of any quality & this overstuffed John Badham pic (just) gets by as it hopscotches around trying to sort itself out. Father/son drama? Art forger vs art expert/opposites attract romance? Innocent man on the run w/ skeptical handcuffed lover? Hitchcock’s the obvious role model, but the script is a great big mess. Ian Richardson, Rod Steiger & Ian Holm make quite a lux cast in support of Jason Patric, a black hole onscreen, he sucks the energy out of anything near him. (Not a bad idea when Rod Steiger's about.) Yet, seen on the small screen, this plays like an okay cable pic & Patric’s Rob Lowe cum Warren Beatty facade actually has some presence.
